Kat Tolentino to miss time for Choco Mucho after appendix rupture

Choco Mucho Flying Titans opposite spiker Kat Tolentino is set to miss action in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference after being diagnosed with a ruptured appendix.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Flying Titans announced that the 6-foot-2 star underwent surgery on Tuesday afternoon following her diagnosis.

The team revealed that Tolentino first experienced severe abdominal pain on Monday. She was rushed to the hospital, where the diagnosis was confirmed the following day.

“On Jan. 20, 2025, Katrina Tolentino had to be hospitalized for severe abdominal pains. Today she was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and had to undergo surgery this afternoon,” read the team’s statement.

“Let’s all pray for her quick and full recovery. Get well soon, Kat! The entire Titan fam is here for you and will always have your back.”

Choco Mucho faces PLDT in its next game on Thursday, a crucial match as the Flying Titans aim to solidify their playoff position.

The team currently holds a 4-3 record and sitting in sixth place in the 12-team standings.

Before her injury, Tolentino had been splitting time at the opposite spiker position with Dindin Manabat. The team also features a strong lineup of wing spikers, including Sisi Rondina, Des Cheng, Isa Molde, and Royse Tubino.

Regine Arocha and Mean Mendrez, meanwhile, have yet to debut this conference.

Tolentino has been a key contributor to Choco Mucho’s campaign this season. Following their reverse sweep against ZUS Coffee last Saturday, she ranked as the league’s 10th-best scorer with 79 points, comprising 56 spikes, 19 blocks, and four aces.
