KarlTzy honored by Esports Awards nomination

For Bren Esports superstar Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, his nomination in the prestigious Esports Awards is just the beginning for Philippine esports as a whole.

The 17-year-old jungler expressed his elation after being named as one of the 10 candidates for the Mobile Player of the Year award of the annual Esports Awards.

“Nakakaproud at masaya po. Masaya kasi international to tapos ako lang nakapasok na Filipino player,” KarlTzy told Tiebreaker Times.

While the nomination proved to be a product of his hard work, what makes KarlTzy more excited about the possible award is the fact that it will bring Philippine esports to a whole different level.

And he believes that it will only be a matter of time before the entire local scene gets its much-deserved recognition.

“Sa palagay ko mas lalaki pa at makikila ang esports scene sa Pilipinas dahil dito. Salamat sa sumoporta sana i-boto nila ako,” added the soft-spoken Mobile Legends player.

KarlTzy put Filipino Mobile Legends on the world map after leading Bren Esports’ M2 World Championship campaign in January.

There, Bren Esports had a magical run that saw them boot out MPL-MY/SG titlist Todak, ONE Esports MPL Invitational kings Alter Ego, MPL-Indonesia champion RRQ Hoshi in the playoffs before slaying MPL-Myanmar winner Burmese Ghouls via a 4-3 win for the Philippines’ first-ever world title.

For his efforts, the pride of Antipolo City was named the MVP of the group stage and the finals.

Other players who were nominated for the award are Zhu “paraboy” Bocheng of Nova Esports (PUBGM), Mohamed “Mohamed Light” Tarek of LA Gaming (Clash Royale), Mustafa “SkYRiiKZz” Ibrahim of SK Gaming (Brawl Stars), and Piyapon “TheCruz” Boonchuay of EVOS Esports TH (Free Fire).

Meanwhile, AcadArena CEO and co-founder Arianne Lim was among the finalists of the Collegiate Ambassador of the Year award.

The annual Esports Awards will be on November 20.
