Kamille Cal forgoes college, signs with Nxled

Kamille Cal will no longer play for University of the Philippines.

Despite already completing her residency at UP, Cal has decided to move on from college, opting to go pro with new PVL team Nxled.

And it was because the 22-year-old playmaker bared the the Fighting Maroons volleyball program is in a reboot.

“It was really a challenging time for everyone, and trainings were postponed for about 3 months. In the middle of it all, I was already feeling frustrated because 3 months of no training can significantly impact an athlete’s progress,” Cal said.

“So, I was weighing my options on whether it was still healthy for me and my career to stay in UP or move forward to the PVL.”

Cal suited up for National University for one season before moving to UP.

With the Chameleons, she will join a team that already has Dani Ravena, Cams Victoria, Lycha Ebon, Krich Macaslang, Chiara Permentilla, Rachel Jorvina, and Jho Maraguinot.

And Cal is excited for the journey ahead.

“The higher the level, the bigger the chance to grow. Yung makakalaro ko dito mga established teams at player na mga respetadong atleta. That fact excites me because I know it will force me to do better also,” she said.

“Nakaka-kaba din lumabas ng comfort zone, but I’m really all for growth, so I’m up for the challenge.”
