Just like the fans, AJ Edu excited to team up with Kai Sotto


In his young, budding career, AJ Edu has donned the Pilipinas jersey once. Together with Juan Gomez de Liano, Rhayyan Amsali, and Encho Serrano, the young team was able to finish seventh in the 2017 FIBA 3X3 Under-17 World Cup.

This time around, Edu will represent the Philippines in a new field as the 6-foot-10 Filipino-Nigerian was named to the pool for the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship. This moment is something that Edu knows would come once he made his commitment back in 2015.

“It feels good,” Edu told Lyn Olavario of ESPN5. “This is like something that I knew I was going to be a part of for a long time since I first joined Batang Gilas.

“So it’s been something I’ve been really looking forward to and really excited for.”

This tournament is a glimpse of the future according to Filipino fans as they see that Edu and Kai Sotto are the future frontline of Philippine basketball.

Just like the fans, the 18-year-old is excited to man the Philippine frontline together with Asia’s best under-16 center.

“I’ve seen the comments, I’ve seen the nicknames like the twin towers and all of that and yeah, I’m excited as well to be honest.

“I’m looking forward to playing with Kai Sotto. I watched the tournament in Argentina. I think it can work out really well I believe. So I think they have the right idea to be excited,” Edu expressed.
