Gilas Pilipinas Men completed a sweep of their tune-up games ahead of Window 3 of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers, cruising to a 94-66 victory over Franklin on Tuesday at Franklin Pool and Leisure.
Once again, Carl Tamayo led the way for the Philippines, finishing with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, including four three-pointers.
Dwight Ramos also delivered an efficient performance, tallying 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting while adding five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in just 23 minutes of action. AJ Edu chipped in 14 points and five rebounds.
Gilas came out firing, racing to a 10-3 lead and never looking back.
Tamayo caught fire early, pouring in 13 of Gilas’ 32 first-quarter points as the Filipinos seized control from the opening period.
The Nationals maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the contest, stretching the lead to as much as 31 points, 92-61, following a Tamayo jumper late in the game.
Kevin Quiambao contributed nine points, five assists, and three rebounds, while Juan Gomez de Liaño and Justine Baltazar added eight and seven points, respectively.
Mike Phillips and Justin Brownlee did not see action.
The win followed Gilas’ 92-61 triumph over Manawatu last Sunday, completing a perfect two-game tune-up slate in New Zealand.
Gilas now heads to Auckland to face the Tall Blacks on Friday at 3 p.m. before traveling to Perth to take on the Boomers on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in Window 3 of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
Jace Carter paced Franklin with 18 points and six rebounds. The Bulls finished last season’s NZNBL campaign with a 9-11 record.
Derrin Boyd added 15 points, while Carter Whitt chipped in 11.
