A thrilling draw between league leaders Stallion Laguna and defending champions Kaya-Iloilo, combined with Capital1’s loss to Makati, has opened the door for Kaya to reclaim the PFF Women’s League title — with one crucial game still left to play.
Saturday’s clash at the Mall of Asia football pitch between the league’s top two teams — essentially a championship match — lived up to the hype, with momentum constantly shifting between both sides.
Stallion seemed poised to complete a league and cup double when captain Chandler McDaniel broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute.
She latched onto a well-placed forward pass from Charisa Lemoran and coolly slotted the ball past Kaya keeper Inna Palacios.
But just as Stallion began to see the title within reach, drama unfolded in added time.
In the 96th minute, Sara Castañeda delivered a sublime free kick into the box, finding Julissa Cisneros, who rose above the defense to head home a dramatic equalizer.
The ball soared past the outstretched arms of Olivia McDaniel, robbing Stallion of full points — and possibly the championship.
“I’m very proud of my team—we stuck it out until the end. Kaya believes in ‘never say die,’ and even in the 98th minute, we gave it our all,” said Cisneros. “It’s not exactly the result we wanted, but it still gives us a fighting chance going into our next match.”
Stallion currently leads the standings with 23 points, but has completed its season.
Kaya, just three points behind with 20, can snatch the title with a win against Makati on Saturday, June 21, at 7:00 PM at the same Pasay venue.
They hold the advantage in goal difference (+34 compared to Stallion’s +19).
Meanwhile, the Solar Strikers entered their final weekend with a legitimate shot at the title, especially after Angelica Teves opened the scoring in the 13th minute.
Needing a high-scoring victory to match Kaya’s goal difference in a potential three-way tie, Capital1 pushed forward.
However, Makati dashed those hopes early in the second half. Kawinthida Kikuntod equalized just moments after the restart, and Gea Yumanda’s 72nd-minute goal sealed a 2-1 comeback win for Makati — effectively ending Capital1’s title bid.
Capital1 finished their campaign with 19 points and currently sit third, but they could drop to fourth depending on the outcome of the Kaya-Makati showdown on the final matchday.
