The thrill of football never ends for ex-professionals. They always always make it a point to be involved in the sport in some capacity, whether by coaching or punditry. For some, though, they end up going back to the daily grind since it gives them fulfillment.
One of those who ended up going back to the daily grind is former Philippine National Men’s Football Team (Azkals) and Ceres-La Salle Football Club defender Juani Guirado. Guirado announced his retirement from football last June and his final game was a sixteen-goal rout of Pasargad FC in the United Football League.
However, Guirado announced the resumption of his football career today in an Instagram post. The Fil-Spanish defender publicized that he has signed for Spanish club Real Burgos Club de Futebol. He stated, “Thanks to all the teams and friends of Burgos that have been interested in me and encouraged me to continue playing football. This year I’ll fight for the colors of the historic club of this city that should be in a higher category. Real Burgos. Thanks for trust in me.”

Real Burgos is situated in the Spanish autonomous community Castile & Leon. The club was founded in 1983 and which ceased operations on 1996. They eventually returned just in time for the 2011-2012 season. They are currently plying their trade in the Primera Regional-Group A and aim to be promoted to the Spanish football’s fourth tier, the Tercera Division. The furthest it reached in the Copa Del Rey was the fourth round.
It is a good, albeit, surprising move on Guirado’s part. Everyone thought he hung up his boots last June after that Pasargad game. With this move, expect the former Azkals defender to give his all to Real Burgos in their quest for promotion.
