Precious Zaragosa showcased excellent form in chipping and putting, dominating the girls’ field with 110 points in Round 2 of the Junior PGT 2023 Series held at the Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa City, Batangas last Sunday.
Zaragosa bounced back strongly after a third-place finish in the driving competition, scoring 13 points. She went on to secure top scores in chipping (55 points) and putting (42 points), resulting in an impressive 110-point performance in the 11-12 age-group category. The tournament also featured competitions in the 9-10 age group.
Tiffany Bernardino claimed the driving honors with 23 points but settled for second and third place in chipping and putting, earning 27 and 35 points, respectively. With a total of 85 points, she finished second. Althea Bañez secured third place with 78 points (17 points in driving, 25 points in chipping, and 36 points in putting).
The one-day tournament showcased the participants’ talent and skills in three key aspects of the sport.
On the boys’ side, Stefano Bautista emerged as the top performer, amassing 101 points. He scored 30 points in driving, 21 points in chipping, and an impressive 50 points in putting. The competitions were organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. Bautista edged out Matthias Espina and William Sulit, who both scored 94 points.
Espina achieved the highest score of 50 points in chipping but settled for 14 points in driving and 30 points in putting. Sulit secured the scoring honors in driving and putting, earning 34 and 55 points, respectively, but only managed five points in chipping.
In the 9-10 age-group category, Georgina Handog and Race Manhit shared the top honors in the tournament conducted under ICTSI’s junior golf program.
Handog emerged as the winner with 78 points, narrowly surpassing Makayla Verano’s total of 77 points. Handog scored 37 points in chipping, 10 points in driving, and 31 points in putting.
Verano recovered from a modest 11-point output in driving, achieving the second-best score of 31 points in chipping and the third-best score of 35 points in putting. Quincy Pilac, who topped the driving contest with 23 points, secured third place with a total of 72 points.
Meanwhile, Race Manhit scored 27 points in driving, excelled with the second-best score of 41 points in chipping, and dominated the putting side with an impressive 55 points, resulting in a total of 123 points.
Ryuji Suzuki finished second with 118 points, fueled by his best score of 45 points in chipping and the second-best score of 47 points in putting. He earned 26 points in driving.
Jacob Casuga, with the second-best score of 30 points in driving and the third-best score of 40 points in chipping, claimed third place with 97 points.
