LAPU-LAPU CITY — Joseph Lin is excited about the prospect of winning a championship alongside his brother Jeremy with New Taipei.
The siblings have the opportunity to accomplish as much in the East Asia Super League (EASL) Final Four at the Hoops Dome here.
The Kings are among those vying for the crown along with Chiba, Anyang, and Seoul SK.
“This is the first time that we’ve ever been on the professional stage together, so definitely, very excited,” expressed the younger Lin during the pre-event press conference, Thursday at the Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu,
The brothers have never teamed up in their professional careers until the former NBA veteran signed with New Taipei back in September of 2023, a few months after his maiden stint in Taiwan with the Kaohsiung Steelers.
His arrival to the Kings came over a year after Joseph got traded by Taipei Fubon, wherein he played the first seven years of his pro journey.
The 6-foot-1 point guard won a title in the Super Basketball League in 2019 and then won two P.League+ (PLG) championships in 2021 and 2022.
But striking gold together with his big bro, and NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors in 2019, would mean the world for the both of them.
In fact, they actually aim to win two championships this year, since New Taipei has also qualified for the PLG playoffs beginning on May 23.
“Our goal is definitely to win two championships. Hopefully. That would be a dream come true for us,” said the 31-year-old Lin.
But of course, it’s not lost on Lin and Co. who they have to hurdle first before thinking of the championship. New Taipei will face the Jets in the semis, going up against the only unbeaten team in the group stage with a 6-0 record.
“They’re 6-0, undefeated, they’re a very, very good team. I think to beat them, we have to start with no. 2,” he offered, referring to star guard Yuki Togashi.
“We have to do our best to contain him, and also just play our brand of basketball and just play extremely hard,” added Lin.
