During his first four conferences in the PBA, Jerramy King rarely saw playing time with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. The 6-foot guard out of Long Beach State only had 26 points in the nine games he was fielded.
He was not re-signed by the Elasto Painters during the off-season.
Needing a floor general, the Columbian Dyip searched through the free agent pool.
“Even during the first conference, we were already thinking of moving Rashawn [McCarthy] to the two-spot. But we needed to look for a point guard. We searched the free agent pool and we saw Jerramy,” shared first-year Dyip head coach Ricky Dandan.
“That is why we made a move for him.”
And it was a move that quickly paid dividends.
In an opening day shocker, Columbian romped the Blackwater Elite, 126-98, to secure their second win of the season. Towing the team was their newest acquisition King as he finished with a team-high 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Moreover, their hounding defense put them in the record books as their 22 steals is the second most in PBA history.
For the 36th overall pick in the 2015 Rookie Draft, he feels that he has found his home.
“Very happy. The style is more style, it’s fast paced coach Ricky has a lot of confidence in me,” he shared.
“He let me play tonight and it worked out well.
“It’s really fast-paced and that suits me well. I did the same thing in college. Coach Ricky likes fast,” he furthered.
Even if he did not get much playing time with his former team, King believes that he would not have played this way without that experience.
“I knew I could play, I’m very confident with myself,” King expressed.
“No hard feelings, I love all the guys there [ROS] but I’m happy where I am now.”
