Jericho Cruz has been cleared by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to join the Guam National Men’s Basketball Team, joining the squad in the first window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
The 6-foot-1 combo guard missed the campaign of NLEX in the Phoenix Super Basketball Tourney since he has been training in Guam.
And this will only do wonders for the six-year veteran, said Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao.
“I think that’s going to help him, and that’s going to be a big honor for him,” the veteran coach said.
Guam’s sole game in the first window will be against New Zealand on Sunday, February 23 at Calvo Field House. Their road game against Hong Kong has been postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) threat. Also part of their group is Australia.
Though part of the Philippine team during the 2013 Southeast Asian Games, FIBA still declared Cruz eligible to play for Guam since the SEA Games is not sanctioned by the governing body.
Cruz was also part of the Northern Mariana Islands youth team back in 2008.
Also part of Guam’s squad is former Adamson Soaring Falcon Will Stinnett.
Another NLEX player competing in the Asia Cup Qualifiers is Kiefer Ravena, who is the captain of the Philippines.
