For 15 years, former National University guard Jeff Napa’s 43-point outburst — spiked by a UAAP-record-tying 10 triples back in August 22, 2002 — was the highest scoring outburst in the league.
Not even high-scoring student-athletes like James Yap, Kiefer Ravena, Terrence Romeo, Roi Sumang, and Ray Parks, Jr. were able to even come close to breaking the record.
But Wednesday evening, burly University of the East Red Warrior forward Alvin Pasaol went unconscious, scoring a whopping 49 points on an efficient 20-for-30 shooting from the field in UE’s 100-106 loss to the De La Salle University Green Archers.
Napa, who is now the head coach of the Letran Knights, admitted that he is delighted that someone has finally broken his record. But the 37-year-old was hoping that Pasaol’s efforts had translated into a win.
“I’m happy for him, pero sana nanalo,” shared Napa, whose 43-point outing had given the NU Bulldogs their first win during the 65th season of the UAAP, 98-92.
Still, Napa knows that an outing like this will only serve as motivation for Pasaol and the Red Warriors, a team that are currently looking for an elusive win.
“Great motivation ‘yan para sa kanya para lalo pa siyang magpursige pa sa kanyang career at matulungan niya yung team niya.”
