Jayson David will be out for a significant amount of time after being diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Ginebra head coach Tim Cone confirmed the development shortly after the Kings’ loss to NLEX on Friday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
“We just got that word today that Jayson does have an ACL [injury],” he told members of the press on the heels of their 118-113 collapse. “He’s gonna get, I think, two weeks immobilized, and then he’s gonna have surgery.”
David suffered the injury early in Ginebra’s eventual 110-93 win over guest team Macau exactly a week ago to begin their conference on a winning note.
The 29-year-old got hurt at the 11:12 mark of the second canto when he cut to the basket upon receiving Stephen Holt’s pass, only for his knee to give way.
It shook the entire Barangay, but they did manage to come out triumphant, although it came at a price so costly that they lost one of their key cogs.
His injury happened in the same game where the team welcomed back Isaac Go, who returned from a knee injury as well after 533 days away.
The game versus the Road Warriors was their first without David, who emerged as an important part of Cone’s frontcourt just last season after turning in a career-high 25 points and nine rebounds in a 131-106 rout of NorthPort.
