Japeth Aguilar has taken a significant step in preparing for life after basketball.
On Sunday night, the 37-year-old Ginebra big man launched his newest business, Eagle 25, a line of Korean-made health and wellness products under Miraean Pharmaceutical Inc., at the Bonifacio Hall in Shangri-La The Fort.
Aguilar shared that it was actually the parents of his wife, Cassandra Naidas-Aguilar, who set up his recent venture, which introduced a variety of products including a ringer solution, lacto solution, and ginseng multi-gel.
“It’s all about connections; I give credit to my in-laws. My in-laws are Koreans so they know some manufacturers from Korea, and they decided to come up with this product,” said Aguilar, who named the brand after his basketball moniker.
The 12-year PBA veteran, who headed straight to Bonifacio Global City after the Kings’ 102-92 win over Phoenix at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, said that his new business comes at a great time especially now that he’s already at the twilight of his basketball career.
“You try to strive in playing basketball and you try to save as much as you can. But yun nga, basketball is hindi naman panghabang buhay so ayun, this is a big opportunity. Also, yun nga, I just try to earn a living and try to support my family,” he said.
Aguilar expressed his utmost gratitude to his in-laws, saying that he never thought of having a venture this big early in his career.
“It’s (almost) the end of my career and I’m trying to look for an escape plan, trying to set up my future, but I never (thought of it) to be this big. I always say, I always thank my in-laws for doing this. They really set this up for us, for me, and my family,” he said.
