James Yap mum on future plans after Rain or Shine exit

Nothing is certain yet with regards to James Yap and his future.

The two-time MVP hasn’t decided yet when asked about what’s next for him after playing what could be his last game with Rain or Shine on Friday.

“Wala pa,” he said moments after the Elasto Painters’ 127-122 quarterfinal loss to San Miguel Beer that ended their PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup run.

Yap spoke little about his situation, respectfully begging off from interviews with members of the press as he made his way out of the Philsports Arena.

The 41-year-old became a topic online anew after Snow Badua of Spin.ph reported that the former may play his final game with RoS should they bow out.

RoS did get eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the twice-to-beat Beermen, now leaving a big question mark on Yap’s next move.

Even head coach Yeng Guiao has no idea about the matter, choosing to defer to the franchise’s top brass led by owners Raymond Yu and Terry Que instead.

“Wala pa naman. ‘Yung level nung usapan kay James, nasa management ‘yun eh,” the champion mentor said. “We will see what happens.”

Guiao, though, wouldn’t have any issue whatsoever should Yap return to the ball club.

“OK ako. Wala naman ‘yun problema sa akin,” he said.

Yap has been with Rain or Shine since being traded by the Purefoods franchise in 2016, although he’s seen limited action especially in the past few seasons.

The seven-time PBA champion even took a break for months to focus on his councilorship bid in San Juan, in which he was successful.

He then signed a one-conference deal prior to the 2023 Governors’ Cup back in March, and has since been playing albeit spot minutes.

Yap didn’t see action against the Beermen.
