College of Saint Benilde is working hard to fill the shoes of their team captain Mycah Go, who is currently serving as an assistant coach while recovering from an ACL reconstruction.
Go, the reigning MVP, was a crucial part of the team that won the championship last season, but the Lady Blazers are determined to succeed without her on the court.
Jade Gentapa, a 5-foot-8 native of Davao, understands the challenge of filling Go’s shoes and acknowledges that the team needs to make some adjustments.
“First of all, medyo ma-trabaho po ‘yung… ‘yung trabaho ni Mycah [Go], so ayun ma-trabaho ‘yung ginagawa namin ngayon, since siya nga po ‘yung captain ball, siya po ‘yung nawala so kailangan ‘yung adjustment unang-una [lagi] sa team namin,” said Gentapa.
Gentapa, who scored 15 points, 10 excellent digs, and seven excellent receptions against San Beda, believes that Go is still a critical part of the team, even as an assistant coach.
“Kailangan namin si Mycah. Kasi parang siya ‘yung nagbibigay lakas ng loob sa team kahit wala siya parang ‘yun… pang inspiration siya,” added the former TIP Lady Engineer.
Despite the challenges, the Lady Blazers are off to a good start in NCAA Season 98. Rookies like Jessa Dorog are stepping up to fill the void left by Go’s absence. Against San Beda last Saturday, Gentapa noted that there is still room for improvement for all the players on the team.
“Yung improvement po, is yung rookies sobrang nag step up po si Dorog. Parang siya ‘yung nag fill in kay Mycah.”
The Lady Blazers feel determined to continue their success this season and are working hard to fill the shoes of their captain. With players like Gentapa and Dorog stepping up, the team is confident that they can overcome any obstacles that come their way.
