Game 7 of the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals pitting crowd-darling Ginebra against guest team Bay Area is a box office hit.
The Philippine Arena was full to its roof with 54,589 in attendance, breaking the PBA’s all-time record, Sunday.
The previous record was set back on October 27, 2017 with 54,086 in attendance at the same Bocaue venue during Game 7 of the 2017 Governors’ Cup Finals. A total of 53,642 attended Game 6 of the same series.
Back on the opening day of the 2014 PBA Season, 52,612 fans watched the event.
Initially, Game 7 was supposed to take place at the same venue last Friday but due to public demand, the league decided to move it today.
A hit has been the series between the Tim Cone-mentored Barangay and Brian Goorjian-coached Dragons drew five-digit attendance in each tilt.
Game One at SM Mall of Asia Arena drew 18,252 fans. Meanwhile, Game Two over at the SMART Araneta Coliseum had a spectator count of 16,044.
The next three MOA games would draw 15,004, 17,236, and 21,823 fans. Then came the 22,361 for Game 6 held at the Big Dome.
All in all, the series has averaged 23,615 fans per game.
