Gilas Youth’s Alex Konov heads to La Salle

The last of the elite prospects in the 2024 high school class has finally made his decision.

Alex Konov, the Filipino-Bulgarian sensation from Gilas Pilipinas boys, committed to De La Salle University on Sunday.

Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.

Konov, a 6-foot-7 utility forward who is represented by Fil-Am Nation, only made the decision to play in the Philippines last month.

His choices boiled down to La Salle, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University, and the University of the Philippines.

According to one of Tiebreaker Times’ sources, Konov’s mother trusted La Salle not only because she is from Olongapo – the same province head coach Topex Robinson comes from – but also because of the quality of education the school offers.

And the Green Archers got a catch in Konov.

Konov played for Gilas Youth in the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship 2022, averaging 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

During his senior year at Manasquan High School in New Jersey, he put up averages of 11.13 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest.

Konov will be eligible to play starting UAAP Season 87 and will have five full years in his ledger.

The 18-year-old will join La Salle in the third week of July.
