KUALA LUMPUR – The Philippines fell three places in the latest FIBA World Ranking Men released upon the conclusion of all continental cups.
Previously sitting at No. 34, Gilas Pilipinas are now at 37th in the global standings with 329.9 points, although they remained at seventh in Asia.
The dip was hardly surprising as the men’s program struggled in FIBA play this year, beginning with back-to-back losses to Chinese Taipei and New Zealand during the third window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers last February.
Coach Tim Cone & Co. did manage to bring the country back to the quarterfinals of the Asia Cup proper in Saudi Arabia last August, but not before starting their campaign with a pair of losses to the same teams.
Gilas got their first win of the tourney against Iraq, and then ousted the hosts in the Qualification to quarterfinals to make it to the final eight.
But their stay in Jeddah wouldn’t last as they fell to an old foe in Australia, who went on to win their third consecutive Asia Cup championship.
The Boomers, who completed the ‘three-peat’ with a dramatic 90-89 win over China in the Final, are just outside the world’s Top 5 as they rose to No. 6.
Also No. 1 in Asia, Australia has moved ahead of Spain, which lost three out of five games in the Group Phase of the EuroBasket 2025 and is now at No. 7.
Staying on top are defending five-time Olympic gold medalists, the United States, despite finishing third at the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 last August.
Climbing to No. 2 is reigning FIBA Basketball World Cup champion Germany after winning its second-ever EuroBasket title last Sunday by beating Turkiye in the Final, with Dennis Schroeder bagging home MVP honors.
The Germans swapped places with Serbia, who slid down to third after being eliminated by Finland during the Round of 16 at the EuroBasket.
France stayed at fourth despite missing the EuroBasket Quarter-Finals as well after being stunned by Georgia in the Round of 16. It is followed by Canada, which improved by one spot to fifth after a Semi-Final finish at the AmeriCup.
Rounding up the Top 10 are Argentina, Lithuania, and Brazil, who moved up two levels after ruling the AmeriCup to win its fifth gold medal overall.
Türkiye was the biggest riser in the Top 50 from 27th to 12th after reaching their first EuroBasket Final since 2001. It got past Latvia, Czechia, former number two Serbia, Poland, and Greece — all higher-ranked opponents.
Greece claimed a historic medal but also lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye, beating only one higher-ranked team — Spain — during the tilt.
Finland, on the other hand, moved up from 20th to 17th thanks to its first-ever continental semi-final appearance, ultimately finishing fourth.
Asia Cup 2025 bronze medalists Iran advanced by two places, reaching 26th, while finalists China shifted up three positions to 27th.
The latest FIBA World Ranking Men was updated last September 15, about two months before the start of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
