One of the world’s biggest stars will probably won’t suit up for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Giannis Antetokounmpo will most likely be out for the global meet which takes place from August 25-September 10 in Pasay City.
The Athletics’ Shams Charania reported the development on Wednesday evening (Manila time).
According to the report, Antetokounmpo had a ‘cleaning procedure’ on his knee that will most likely sideline him for the Worlds Championship.
The former NBA Most Valuable Player played in one game during the European Qualifiers, dropping 40 points, eight rebounds, and five assists during Greece’s game against Serbia last August 25.
Antetokounmpo had been nursing an injury since the first round of the NBA Eastern Conference First Round that saw top seed Milwaukee fall to eighth seed Miami in six games.
Greece is slotted with the USA, New Zealand, and Jordan in Group C.
All Group C games will be played at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
