Gilas Pilipinas Men have risen to 38th in the world rankings, just two spots higher despite their participation in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
The Philippines, previously ranked at 40th, finished with a 1-4 record in the global tournament, securing a victory only against China on the final day of the classification phase.
Gilas remains in the 8th position in Asia.
In the Oceania region, Australia (#3) and New Zealand (#21) maintain their positions as the top two teams in the ‘Asia Pacific Zone’, while Japan has climbed 11 spots to 26th after being the only Asian nation with a winning record in the World Cup.
Following Japan, there are Iran, who dropped four spots to 27th, Lebanon, which saw a remarkable rise of 16 spots to 27th, and China, who slipped one spot to 28th.
Jordan, on the other hand, moved up one spot to No. 32 despite failing to secure any wins in the World Cup.
Korea was Asia’s biggest loser, falling further to 51st.
In the global rankings, the USA has taken the top spot from Spain after finishing fourth in the tournament.
The world champion, Germany, on the other hand, has jumped from 10th to No. 3.
The most significant climbers in the rankings are world cup debutants South Sudan (moving from 63rd to 31st), Latvia (rising from 30th to 8th), and Cape Verde (ascending from 65th to 49th).
