For the Fighting Maroons, change starts from within

“Thirty years.”

This is a recurring phrase for members of the UP men’s basketball team entering the season. You can hear new head coach Bo Perasol say it and then went down to its players. Take team Ccptain and graduating guard Jett Manuel, for example.

30 years was how long the “bad culture” had been plaguing the program. And for the UP Maroons, the entry of Perasol is a step towards new direction.

And where should this change start?

“Like what coach Bo said, we’re trying to exhibit change in the culture internally muna,” Manuel said.

“Before we can say that we’re going to win more and all those, I think Coach Bo is focusing more on how we act as a team.”

Six months into coach Perosol’s reign, Manuel can say that they are slowly progressing into the right path. Nevertheless, they still need more reminders of what needs to be done.UAAP-78-UE-vs.-UP-Manuel-1554 For the Fighting Maroons, change starts from within Basketball News UAAP UP - philippine sports news

“I think there are evident changes in the team,” the former UAAP Most Improved Player said.

“Right now, hindi pa naman full yung change. We still have bad habits, 30 years eh, hindi pa nawawala.”

However, the graduating Civil Engineering student believes that we can expect a “change” in the team going into the season starting on Sunday.

“You can see changes on how the team performs, how the team interacts with each other, and how we go into each game,” he added.

“I think that is the biggest change.”
