Defending champion National University will open its UAAP women’s volleyball second-round campaign against De La Salle University on Sunday, as announced in the league’s schedule release on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs started their dominant seven-match sweep of the first round with a convincing 25-23, 25-21, 25-18 victory on opening weekend last February 16.
NU and La Salle, the league’s two most recent champions, will clash at 5:00 PM, following the showdown between traditional rivals University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University at 1:00 PM.
Both matches will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Tickets for Sunday’s women’s doubleheader will be sold separately.
The Tigresses recently fell to the Lady Bulldogs in a tightly contested five-set Finals rematch (25-23, 17-25, 25-19, 18-25, 9-15). They are level with the Lady Spikers in second and third place at 5-2.
Meanwhile, the Lady Tamaraws hold solo fourth place with a 4-3 record.
Second-round action kicks off on Saturday at the Pasay bayside arena with the “Battle of Katipunan” between University of the Philippines and Ateneo at 4:00 PM.
Earlier in the day, Adamson University and University of the East will open the round at 2 p.m.
The Fighting Maroons currently sit in fifth place with a 3-4 record, just one game behind the No. 4 spot. Both the Lady Falcons and Blue Eagles are at 2-5, while the Lady Warriors are still searching for their first win after seven matches.
In the men’s division, unbeaten FEU and UST will face off at 11:00 AM on Sunday, following the match between five-peat-seeking NU and La Salle at 9:00 AM.
On Saturday, UP and Ateneo will renew their rivalry at 12:00 PM, while Adamson and UE battle it out at 10:00 AM.
The Tamaraws, boasting a flawless 7-0 record, are enjoying their best start since UAAP Season 81 (2019). NU follows closely in second place at 6-1.
UST, La Salle, and Ateneo are locked in a three-way tie for third to fifth place with identical 4-3 records. The Fighting Maroons sit in sixth with a 2-5 slate, while the Falcons and Red Warriors round out the standings at 1-6 and 0-7, respectively.
