Filipinas finish fourth in Pinatar Cup

The Philippine Women’s National Football Team concluded its campaign in the 2024 Pinatar Cup with a 0-1 defeat to Slovenia in the third-place game Wednesday at the Pinatar Arena.

The Filipinas finished in fourth place for the second year running in this competition.

Mark Torcaso’s side fell to Slovenian defender Lana Golob’s fifth-minute goal, which proved to be the difference maker in the end.

The Filipinas were pegged back as the Slovenians kept on pushing for that insurance goal.

Late in the match, Philippine striker Sarina Bolden had a sniff at goal, only for midfielder Kaja Korošec to deny her with a timely block.

Lara Prašnikar could have doubled the Slovenians’ cushion with five minutes left in the contest, but goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel prevented further damage for the Filipinas.

The earlier match saw Scotland and Finland contest the championship.

Oona Sevenius, who scored thrice against the Philippines in a pre-tourney friendly, gave Finland the lead in the 21st minute.

However, Martha Thomas, who scored a brace against the Filipinas a few days ago, equalized for the Scottish in the 75th minute.

With no winner in regulation and extra time, the game moved to penalties, which Finland ultimately won 5-4 to win the trophy.

Philippines XI: McDaniel, Cowart, Sawicki, Bolden, Eggesvik, Beard, Harrison, Sahirul, Norman, Quezada ©, Guillou.

Slovenia XI: Zala (GK), Lana, A Sara, G Sara, Kaja, Mateja ©, P Lara, Spela, Kaja, Zara, JK Lara
