FEU scores impressive bounce back win; Saint Benilde continues winning ways

By: Jonash Dannug

After a suffering tough loss against the surging CSB Blazers last Tuesday, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws were able to tame UAAP rival Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 75-64, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup Presented by Chooks-to-Go, Tuesday evening, at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Prince Orizu spearheaded the Tamaraws’ attack with 12 points and eight rebounds. Jasper Parker notched nine markers, while Arvin Tolentino and Barkley Ebona had eight apiece in a game that saw FEU collect their fourth win of the tournament.

“I was looking forward to those match-ups against UAAP teams because that’s the time where you can really gauge kung nasaan ka na sa preparation mo eh,” said Tamaraws head coach Olsen Racela.

“I think we played well during the first half pero ‘yung second half there were a lot of mental lapses na Adamson capitalized and took advantage off,” he added.

The Soaring Falcons — who got a taste of their first loss in the tournament — were topscored by Sean Manganti with 20 points. Papi Sarr added 13 points in a losing effort.

The College of St. Benilde Blazers continued their fine play, as they picked up their fifth win in the tournament against the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers, 99-87, in the first game of the afternoon.

Clement Leutcheu led the Blazers with 22 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists. Edward Dixon scored 16, while JJ Domingo added 14 for the Blazers, who now rest at the top of Group B.

For the Growling Tigers, Kenneth Zamora fired 22 points off the bench, while Zach Huang added 21 points and eight rebounds for UST, who fell to 1-4.
