So far in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, the Phoenix Fuel Masters have been the top dog, zooming to a 4-0 start.
The Fuel Masters remained on top of the team standings, as they collected their fourth straight win following their merciless 114-95 decimation of the Blackwater Elite, Friday evening at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
“I’m happy that we’re 4-0. We’ve been working our asses off,” said main man Matthew Wright, who was among the six players that finished in double figures with 19 markers, along with seven rebounds and seven assists.
But as glad as he is, Wright said they haven’t really done anything.
“We haven’t done anything yet, we haven’t done anything worth bragging. We haven’t won a playoff game yet.
“We’re still hungry and motivated,” said the third-year guard, who has yet to go beyond the quarterfinals.
For Wright, the Fuel Masters have yet to really be tested in the all-Filipino conference especially by the San Miguel Corp.-owned teams — they will not be facing the three league powerhouses until March comes.
“I don’t really know, I feel like… we haven’t played the beef of the schedule yet, we still have the San Miguel teams coming up towards the latter end. We’re prepared for them but I can’t say,” said the 6-foot-4 swingman.
“I’m very happy on how we’ve been playing. [But] I think we’re still far from where we should be.”
