Espejo, Tokyo grounded by Toray in V.League

Toray made quick work of FC Tokyo, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18, in the 2021-22 Japan V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the Konohana Arena in Shizuoka on Saturday.

Marck Espejo saw himself stifled to just nine points on seven attacks, a block, and an ace in the losing cause. But his back row spiking continues to be a strong suit, connecting on 3-of-4 attempts.

Krisztián Pádár, the third-leading scorer of the league, led the onslaught for the Arrows. He had 23 points scattered through 18 attacks, three service aces, and two blocks.

Kentaro Takahashi chipped in 11 points including two blocks while Shoma Tomita added nine points of his own.

Toray improved to 8-3, tied with Suntory for second seed, while FC Tokyo slid to 3-8.

Jonas Kvalen had 11 points in the losing cause. Meanwhile, Yuma Nagatomo – who made 25 attacking attempts – finished with 11 as well.

FC Tokyo will try to return to the win column tomorrow when it battles the Arrows again at 2:00 PM at the same arena.
