Erica De Luna saved her best for last.
The 18-year-old De La Salle Zobel guard made history in her final UAAP high school game, delivering an unprecedented quadruple-double to lead the Junior Lady Archers past Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP Season 87 Girls’ Basketball Tournament.
De Luna etched her name in the record books with a dominant 32-point, 16-rebound, 12-steal, and 11-assist performance — the first quadruple-double ever recorded across all five UAAP basketball divisions.
It was the perfect exclamation point to an otherwise tough season for DLSZ, which finished in third place with a 2-4 record.
While the Junior Lady Archers fell short against powerhouse programs like National University Nazareth School and the University of Santo Tomas, De Luna’s brilliance provided a silver lining.
She not only secured a win to close the season, but also solidified her status as one of the brightest young stars in the UAAP.
She had already come close to the feat earlier in the season, nearly achieving it in the first-round match-up against the Blue Eagles last February 9. There, she tallied 34 points, 13 steals, 12 rebounds, and two assists.
The last known quadruple-double at the amateur level was recorded by Joshua Saret, who erupted for 89 points, 13 steals, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in Jose Rizal University’s 171-43 rout of Angeles University Foundation during the NCAA Season 86 Juniors Basketball Tournament on July 23, 2009.
From playing on the streets of Muntinlupa and honing her skills at Buli Elementary School to making a name for herself in the WNCAA and now cementing her place in UAAP girls’ basketball history, De Luna is proud of how she capped off her high school career.
“Nakaka-boost ito ng confidence heading into my collegiate career. Even though konti lang yung time at preparation namin, proud ako aside from my stats, na we ended the season with a win on a high note,” De Luna told Tiebreaker Times.
“Masaya rin sa feeling na bago kami mag-UAAP, nakikita ko kung paano na ako nakapag-grow as a player. Sabi nga nila coach sa akin palagi, malayo ka na, pero malayo pa mararating ko hopefully.“
As she prepares for the next chapter of her basketball journey, De Luna acknowledges the work needed to elevate her game and carry over her success from the juniors division to the bright lights of UAAP women’s basketball.
Eager to stay in the UAAP for her collegiate career, she is now focused on developing consistency, maturity, and composure to take her game to the next level.
“Ang goal ko is syempre dahil upcoming collegiate player ako, sana nasa UAAP pa rin ako at maging consistent pa rin ako sa laro. At sana sa collegiate career ko, more wins to come and at the same time, growth and maturity na rin,” the 5-foot-4 guard shared.
She also admitted, “Yung composure rin talaga. Sabi nga ni Coach Maan [Moreno], sa WNCAA, super hot-headed ako. Fini-figure out ko pa rin naman and wino-work on ko pa rin iyon.”
Now in her final year at DLSZ, De Luna remains undecided about where she will continue her collegiate career, leaving the door open for multiple UAAP programs.
After averaging 20.67 points, 9.83 rebounds, 5.17 steals, and 4.83 assists this season, she only hopes to make the right decision — one that will allow her to grow both on and off the court.
“Meron na mga nakakausap. Undecided pa ako, pero ang hiling ko lang ngayon mapunta lang ako sa tamang UAAP team kung saan kakailanganin ako and at the same time, kung saan ako tunay na maggo-grow pa as a basketball playe.”
