Despite the lopsided first two sets, Creamline setter Kyle Negrito knew the defending champions couldn’t afford to relax — not against a team like Choco Mucho.
“Siyempre po knowing Choco, pag talagang nabigyan ng pagkakataon, talagang gina-grab din nila ‘yung chance na bibigyan sila ng chance,” said the four-time league Best Setter.
The Flying Titans, desperate to boost their quarterfinal bid and extend their conference, showed resilience in the third set. They rallied behind Royse Tubino’s late backrow hit that pushed them ahead, 23-22.
But as the pressure mounted, Negrito and the Cool Smashers leaned on their poise and chemistry to close the door.
True to its reputation as the league’s most successful franchise, Creamline stayed calm under pressure. Schwan and Gumabao delivered consecutive kills before Panaga’s decisive block on Isa Molde sealed the victory.
Negrito expressed satisfaction with how the team responded to Choco Mucho’s challenge, particularly as their composure and execution down the stretch secured their spot in the quarterfinals.
“Happy po ako na kahit na nagkaroon ‘yung Choco Mucho. Happy ako na nakasagot kami, ‘di kami bumigay, at natapos namin ‘yung game,” said the 28-year-old playmaker.
She finished with 18 excellent sets, orchestrating a well-balanced offensive attack that allowed multiple players to find their rhythm and step up.
“Siyempre, as a setter, nakakatuwa na alam mo na kahit sino ipasok ni Coach She magre-respond. At the end of the day, volleyball is a team sport,” said Negrito.
“So kung ano ‘yung effective, siyempre lagi sinasabi ni coach, doon tayo sa effective, doon tayo sa gumagana. And then kung lahat makakatulong po sa pagpuntos at pumuntos, mas okay po, so desisyon na po niya yan.”
