VNS-One Alicia setter Ish Polvorosa admits that the Griffins still have a ton of work to do despite scoring an opening day win against Ateneo-Fudgee Barr in the 2022 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, Tuesday.
The team already had a 2-1 advantage over the Blue Eagles but eventually dropped the fourth frame, forcing a decider. Polvorosa said that it has to do with the team’s chemistry as they only had a full week of practice together.
Still, despite that, Polvorosa was very happy with how the team stepped up and bounced back to finally claim the win.
“This time around, I’m playing for a new team na kami yung parang guest players, and then we’re happy na slowly but surely, we’re getting our chemistry with the team,” said the national team stalwart.
“Kailangan naming pagtrabahuhan pa yung mga dapat pagtrabahuhan pa. In time, yung mga games na darating pa and because of our training, I’m sure we will get there na.”
Polvorosa finished with a game-high 29 excellent sets to go along with two attacks to steer VNS to a five-set 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-9 victory over the collegiate squad.
Ben San Andres also made his presence felt, coming up with 20 points to go along with 16 excellent receptions and 13 excellent digs. Kevin Montemayor and Uriel Mendoza added 14 and 10, respectively, while Kim Malabunga had eight markers.
Polvorosa, a proud product of Ateneo, also lauded his alma mater for the fight that they showed throughout the nail-biting match.
“First of all I wanna give credit where credit is due because they played well today,” said Polvorosa, a five-time UAAP Best Setter.
“Of course, marami sa amin matagal nang hindi nakabalik sa court, playing competitively, professionally at this level so I’m just happy that we played well in moments that we needed the most. Nag-deliver naman yung teammates ko na kailangan mag-deliver so I’m happy.”
