Roger Pogoy couldn’t find the words to explain his thoughts moments after his TNT Katropa bowed to defending Commissioner’s Cup champions San Miguel Beermen in Game One of their quarterfinal series, Monday evening.
The sophomore had apparently been left stunned after witnessing their 23-point lead evaporate in the second half, no thanks to the fightback by San Miguel that saw Renaldo Balkman, June Mar Fajardo, and Marcio Lassiter do the work.
“Wala, wala akong masabi,” said the 6-foot-2 Pogoy moments after their 110-121 loss, where he had 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting along with four rebounds. “Maganda naman yung nilaro namin eh, binigay namin yung best namin.
“‘Di namin alam bakit natalo pa kami.”
It was expected that the Katropa would coast to the victory – and to the series lead – following their impressive first half where they shot 46.2 percent from the field, which had been highlighted by the 10 three-pointers they sunk.
Then the Beermen happened.
An ankle injury, incurred with 2:32 left in the game, simply added to Pogoy’s Monday night woes. He was limping after landing badly on a rebound attempt, and he left the game for good with 2:14 left.
“Natapilok. Pero dati ko pa ‘to eh, dating tapilok ‘to. Pagtalon ko, pag-ano, natapilok ako, lalo sumakit,” said the Cebuano cager. “Mali landing.”
With his injury, Pogoy’s status for Game Two this Wednesday is uncertain. But the former Far Eastern University Tamaraws standout affirmed that he will suit up, to help the Texters equalize.
“Sana, sana makalaro ako. Kakayanin ko.”
