Continuing his string of eking out unanimous decision wins, Danny Kingad out-grappled Japanese boxer Senzo Ikeda en route to gaining the judges’ favor, Sunday afternoon during ONE: A New Era at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.
Besides lifting his record to 13-1, the prized young buck of Team Lakay will advance to the semifinals of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix. He will face Kairat Akhmetov (26-2), who bested Fil-Aussie Reece McLaren (12-6) via unanimous decision, in the next round.
Facing a boxer who owns an 8-0 pro record, the 26-year-old utilized his grappling to take down the Japanese fighter with ease during the first five minutes of the contest.
Kingad tried to test his wares in the stand-up in the second round, but Ikeda happily obliged.
The Baguio native put up a strong final round to pick up his sixth straight victory.
Ikeda, who fell to 12-7-1, replaced Andrew Leone in the tournament.
