After three stellar years, Christian Standhardinger’s time as a Gin King has come to an end.
Ginebra has sent Standhardinger – along with Stanley Pringle and the 10th overall pick in the 2024 PBA Draft – to Terrafirma in exchange for Isaac Go, Stephen Holt, and the third overall pick in tomorrow’s draft in a blockbuster trade on Saturday.
Despite spending a relatively short time with the Barangay, Standhardinger remains grateful to the league’s most popular franchise and its huge fanbase.
“I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible support and love you’ve shown me throughout my time with Barangay Ginebra. Being part of this team has been a truly unforgettable journey, and I’m grateful for every cheer, chant, and moment of encouragement,” he expressed in a post on social media.
“To the fans, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your unwavering support has meant the world to me, and it has been an honor to play for you and represent the Ginebra colors.”
The 6-foot-8 Filipino-German arrived in Ginebra back in March 2021 after a straight swap with Nortport in exchange for Greg Slaughter.
With the Gin Kings, he won two championships, a Finals MVP plum, and a Best Player of the Conference honor.
Ginebra head coach Tim Cone revealed that Standhardinger had wanted a change of scenery, disclosing it during the 2024 Philippine Cup.
“Christian had told us a conference ago that he would prefer to play in a different system and under a different coach. No doubt, he loved his teammates and playing for the Ginebra fans, but he felt it was better to move on,” said Cone.
Standhardinger shared that he respects Cone’s decision to move on from him as well.
“I acknowledge Coach Tim’s decision and respect it. It’s part of the game, and I wish him and the team all the best moving forward,” he opined.
Standhardinger also expressed his gratitude to his ex-teammates and bosses at San Miguel Corporation.
“To the management of San Miguel, especially Boss RSA (Ramon S. Ang) and Boss Alfrancis Chua, I extend my sincerest thanks. Your trust and commitment have been invaluable, and I appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a prestigious organization. Thank you for putting together a team of high character and integrity,” he expressed.
“To my teammates, it has been an honor battling alongside you. We shared some amazing moments, including winning two championships, and I will always cherish those memories. I wish you all continued success and many more titles in the future.”
Now, Standhardinger will be playing for his fourth PBA team – the franchise that traded away his rights just days before the 2017 Draft.
It’s definitely a full circle for the 35-year-old Standhardinger.
“Thank you all once again for the incredible journey. Here’s to new beginnings and continued success for Ginebra!”
