After a prolonged search, Blackwater has finally found a replacement for Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser.
A year after the controversial trade that sent Rosser to NLEX, the Bossing made their move in this year’s PBA Draft, choosing 6-foot-6 Christian David as the second overall pick.
David, whose career has been marred by injuries, expressed his surprise at being selected so high in the draft.
“I had no expectations coming in. Just blessed for this opportunity,” the product of Butler University expressed.
“I’m excited to be a part of this team.”
Just four years ago, Blackwater faced disappointment when they selected Maurice Shaw as the second overall pick, and then the Rosser trade followed.
This time, David aims to be the catalyst for a change in the franchise’s fortunes, especially after the Bossing only managed to secure nine wins last season.
“Of course, that’s the goal. Whatever the coaches need, I’ll do it and hopefully, we win a lot of games,” the 25-year-old Filipino-Canadian shared.
While it’s challenging to assess what David can bring to Blackwater, considering he didn’t play a single game with Seoul Samsung last year, he remains confident in his abilities and vows to be the missing piece in the Blackwater equation.
“I think I can spread the floor more for the guards to drive. I think I’ll be a good asset to this team,” he said.
“All aspects of my game can still improve, especially ball-handling and being consistent with my shot.”
