Just two games into his first-ever formal stint as a head coach of the Kia Picanto, Chris Gavina has resigned from his post. The letter was received and accepted by team manager Joe Lipa, Saturday morning.
The news was first broke by Gerry Ramos of Spin.ph and was confirmed to Tiebreaker Times by team governor Bobby Rosales.
“Yes, Coach Chris talked to Joe Lipa (team manager) about it,” said Rosales via text message as he is out of the country as of the moment.
Technically, Gavina is 0-2 as head coach, being only named as team mentor during the start of the 43rd season of the league.
In 2016, he was appointed as the lead assistant coach of the franchise with Sen. Manny Pacquiao named as chief tactician. Under his supervision, Kia/Mahindra struggled to mix and match the constant revolving door of players the team experienced.
During his stay, he has been vocal with the controversial transactions the team made but continued to play with the cards dealt on him.
His two listed losses came at the hands of the NLEX Road Warriors last December 20, 115-119, and the Phoenix Fuel Masters last December 27, 102-125.
The Picanto are currently in the midst of a 14-game losing skid.
Ricky Dandan will take over as head coach.
The franchise is currently in talks with Phoenix Fuel Corporation as Phoenix owner Dennis Uy is about to purchase Columbian Autocar Corporation, the distributor of Kia in the Philippines.
