Chico Manabat is making the leap to the big league.
The youthful coach has been appointed as the lead deputy for Converge, starting with the 2025 PBA Philippine Cup, where he will assist head coach Franco Atienza and Pampanga Governor Delta Pineda.
Manabat replaces Charles Tiu, who parted ways with the FiberXers last week.
Along with Tiu, Converge also announced the departures of strength and conditioning coaches Nico Francisco and Gelo Vito, as well as analytics head Paulo Maligalig.
This move also marks a reunion for Manabat, who will be working alongside Converge governor Archen Cayabyab, his former teammate from their days with the NU Bulldogs.
With this transition, Manabat will step down as head coach of Arellano University in the NCAA and will serve as a consultant for the Chiefs.
His lead deputy, Jun Cuevas, will take over as head coach.
Manabat initially took the reins from Cholo Martin in NCAA Season 99.
His best finish came last season when the Chiefs went 7-11 to secure 7th place.
He is also a one-time UCAL champion with Centro Escolar University.
Cuevas, having worked closely with Manabat for years, is expected to ensure a smooth transition for Arellano.
