Chiara Permentilla steadfast after ACL tear: ‘Lalo akong namo-motivate na mas magpursigi’

Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skipper Chiara Permentilla suffered a complete anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on her left knee after an awkward landing in the game against Cignal last Saturday.

The incoming Adamson junior will miss the rest of the 2019 PSL All-Filipino Conference and the PVL Collegiate Conference. Moreover, she will be questionable for the UAAP Season 82 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

Still, she remains upbeat and vows to focus on her recovery.

“Actually gusto ko ng ma-operahan para makapag start na ulit ‘yung rehab ko, kasi gustong gusto ko na ulit makabalik sa paglalaro,” the 5-foot-8 spiker said.

Permentilla disclosed that she has yet to go under the knife, but will do so this Tuesday. She also mentioned that her rehabilitation will start two days after her surgery.

“Bawal tamad na kahit na-injury ako, lalo akong namo-motivate na mas magpursigi pa kasi gusto ko na makabalik,” the 21-year-old continued.

Permentilla made it known that her resolve to help her team in any way or form is as resolute as her desire to recover.

While she is having a tough time going out and about, Permentilla – with the help of crutches and knee brace – was still in attendance at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Saturday. She made her presence felt from the sidelines and cheered her teammates on in the match against PLDT.

Regardless of the result, the Fil-Italian outside hitter simply wanted to show support for her Marinerang Pilipina, especially since it was their last preliminary round game at the FilOil Arena.

“Gustong-gusto ko talaga [magpakita ng suporta] kasi ito na lang ‘yung game na malapit,” she said. “‘Yung ibang games, malalayo na, out-of-town na, kaya pinush ko talaga na makanood. Kung sa mga like, Muntinlupa, feeling ko ‘di na ko papayagan ng doctor ko na lumabas.”

Permentilla also wants her sisters-in-arms to draw strength from the predicament that she faces.

“Gaya ng sinabi ni coach Ron [Dulay] kanina, hindi porke’t may na-injured kami na teammates na magi-give up na din lahat,” she said.

“Yun nga, gawin niyong inspirasyon yung teammate niyo na hindi na makapaglaro.”
