Grethcel Soltones, PLDT regain form, vent frustrations on Marinerang Pilipina

Over a week after their loss to Petron, the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters got back on track at the expense of the Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20, in the 2019 PSL All-Filipino Conference, Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Power Hitters raised their record to 4-7 to keep hold of the sixth seed. Meanwhile, the Lady Skippers fell to their 12th straight loss.

“Naghahabol kasi kami ngayon. Siyempre, lahat ng ipapanalo mas importante. Hindi naman gagalaw yung standing namin, number six pa rin kami,” PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb said. “Okay lang, at least nakapanalo.”

Tied at 17 in the third set, Jorelle Singh nailed an off-the-block hit — her only point in the match — which incited an 8-3 closing run to seal PLDT’s bounce-back win.

Grethcel Soltones led a balanced PLDT offense with 11 points built on 10 attacks, along with 19 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions.

Sasa Devanadera and Aiko Urdas supplied nine markers each for the Power Hitters, who saw all but two attackers notch a point in the match. The former contributed two of her team’s eight aces, while the latter helped out on defense with 16 excellent digs.

PLDT captain Jerrili Malabanan managed eight points. Setter Jasmine Nabor chipped 14 excellent sets on top of five points.

On the other hand, Ivy Remulla spearheaded the Lady Skippers in scoring. She tallied nine points spiked by two aces.

Judith Abil and Nica Guliman added eight markers apiece. Rhea Ramirez had 21 excellent sets laced with two points.
