PASSI — Chery Tiggo stayed unbeaten after handing Cignal its first loss, 25-13, 26-28, 25-15, 25-15, for its third straight win in the 2025 PVL On Tour, Saturday night at the City of Passi Arena here.
Through a balanced offensive strike led by rookie Renee Peñafiel, the Crossovers halted the HD Spikers’ three-game winning streak to climb to the top of Pool B as the only undefeated team with a spotless 3-0 record.
Peñafiel, the 26th overall pick, continued to prove herself as a solid pickup for Chery Tiggo, recording her third consecutive double-digit outing — and her best performance yet — with a game-high 18 points built on 12 attacks, three kill blocks, and three service aces.
“Proud kami not only kay Penafiel but du’n sa mga rookies namin sa draft na gradual na nakakasabay na sila sa system. Nakita naman din namin kasi yung heart nila na gusto talagang maglaro for Chery Tiggo and prove something for Chery Tiggo,” said Crossovers head coach Norman Miguel.
Chery Tiggo picked up where they left off in the opening set after dropping an extended second frame. They reasserted their dominance over Cignal while capitalizing on the latter’s 33 errors in the one-hour, 50-minute match that ultimately led them to victory.
“Pinag-aaralan namin yung movements ng kabila. We strategize kung sino yung kailangang tutukan sa mga important players nila. Ganun lang din pero paulit-ulit, paulit-ulit, paulit-ulit yung training,” Miguel said.
Ara Galang tallied 15 points on 11 attacks, two aces, and two kill blocks, while Ilongga Cess Robles finished with a double-double of 14 points and 14 excellent digs to go along with five excellent receptions. Imee Hernandez rounded out the double-digit performers with 11.
Passi native Aby Maraño, meanwhile, chipped in seven points in just her second time playing in front of her hometown crowd.
Alina Bicar steered the show with 25 excellent sets to go along with two points, while veteran libero Anngela Nunag contributed 15 excellent digs and 16 excellent receptions to help fuel the team’s surprise 3-0 start.
Chery Tiggo will look to extend its streak to four games when it battles Creamline on Sunday at 6:30 PM.
Meanwhile, Cignal, save for a second-set surge, failed to regain its rhythm in the last two sets to slip to 3-1 in the standings.
Erika Santos was the HD Spikers’s lone double-digit scorer with a team-high 14 points.
Roselyn Doria-Aquino had eight points, while the pair of Tin Tiamzon and Ishie Lalongisip chimed in with seven markers each in the loss.
Cignal aims to bounce back versus ZUS Coffee also tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
