Carlos Yulo has made history for the Philippines.
Yulo secured the country’s second-ever Olympic gold medal with a stunning performance in the men’s floor exercise event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In a dazzling display of athleticism and precision, the young gymnast from Malate, Manila achieved a remarkable score of 15.0 at Bercy Arena on Saturday evening (Manila time), outshining his competitors and capturing the gold.
Yulo’s victory marks a significant milestone for the Philippines, following Hidilyn Diaz’s gold medal in the -55kg category of women’s weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
His triumph is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication, elevating him to the elite ranks of Olympic champions.
With this historic win, Yulo has not only secured his place in the annals of Philippine sports history but has also inspired a nation with his extraordinary achievement.
Taking his overwhelming 6.6 execution score from the individual all-around routine on the floor, Yulo knew that it would boil down to execution this night in Paris.
One tumbling pass to another flowed smoothly for the Adamson University product, with minor wobbles overshadowed by how each skill led seamlessly to the next.
Eventually, with a well-deserved score of 8.400 for execution, Yulo can now exorcise the ghost of Tokyo 2020 and claim this monumental title for the Philippines.
Definitely, the Golden Boy delivered.
Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat will once more be by his side on the podium with a silver, scoring 14.966, just as he did when Yulo won his first World title in the same apparatus.
His friend and Brit-Fil Jake Jarman rounded out the podium with a score of 14.933.
