Calvin Abueva was on cloud nine even hours after the Games and Amusements Board said that it was ready to reinstate his professional license.
“Actually, mas naging excited ako nung makakasama ako sa bubble,” the 32-year-old native of Angeles City quipped during CNN’s The Final Word. “Naging mas excited ako.
“Fifty-percent excitement nung makakasama ako dito sa bubble, tapos nadagdagan ng twenty-percent nung na reinstate ‘yung license ko dito sa GAB.”
And he will reach unfiltered happiness when he finally returns to the hardcourt — for real.
“Actually, wala pa, hindi pa one-hundred percent dahil may hihintay pa ‘ko na go-signal kay Comm. Willie [Marcial].”
According to GAB, Abueva — who was suspended indefinitely by both the PBA and GAB last June 4, 2020 — will need to attend a seminar tackling “The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete” and undergo a mandatory drug test.
Abueva is not sweating the details since the agency that will set that up.
“Ang iniisip ko ngayon ‘yung practice at makakuha ng flow sa teammates ko,” the eight-year pro continued.
The embattled star then shared that he and Marcial have already spoken. He did not bare what they talked about, though.
“Confidential pa ‘yung pinag-usapan at hindi ko pa alam ‘yung puwede pa nilang gawin, at ano pa ‘yung puwede pa nilang i-signal kung ano pang gagawin sa akin at kung kailan ako makakabalik,” he said.
“Ako, ready lang ako kung kailan.”
It is admittedly unlikely that he will play on opening day, scheduled on October 11. But for him, one thing is for sure.
“I don’t have an idea sa opening pero ako, one-hundred ten percent na naniniwala ako na makakalaro ako.”
