Third year San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stag Michael Calisaan figured in a freak accident last Sunday, May 22 in his hometown of Pampanga.
The NCAA Season 91 Most Improved Player, who is averaging 18.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing in the 2016 FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup, missed his first game of the tournament against the Perpetual Altas. The 6’4 power forward, according to head coach Egay Macaraya, figured in a freak motorcycle accident that will cause him to miss games in the tournament.
“Nung nag-break kami [nangyari yun] tapos piyesta sa Sta. Rita, Pampanga. Nautusan ata siya tapos nadulas yung motor,” Macaraya shared.
The accidents resulted to the 21 year old losing, at most, seven of his teeth and received six inches of stitches on his chin. “Yung injury niya kasi is more sa ngipin niya, may tama din siya sa chin – mga six inches yung tahi. Tapos mga seven na ngipin ang natanggal,” the mentor said.
“Nag-rerecover na siya. Sa Monday babalik na siya [sa school].”
Fortunately for Calisaan, there were no further injuries to his body resulting from the accident. “Papatignan pa namin yung jaw niya pero sa x-ray wala namang tama.”
As a precautionary measure when he returns, Calisaan will have to wear a face mask. Moreover, the Stags will not rush to bring him back to the hardcourts and will be given time to recover. “Yung trauma kasi na nangyari sa kanya grabe talaga,” his coach closed. “Hopefully, maka-recover siya.”
It is still uncertain whether Calisaan can make it to San Sebastian’s NCAA opening game against the EAC Generals on Sunday, June 26.
