San Miguel Alab Pilipinas will no longer have Caelan Tiongson for the upcoming 10th ASEAN Basketball Leagie season, as the Fil-American forward announced his retirement on Monday.
Tiongson, 27, took to social media site Instagram to make it known that he’s hanging up his sneakers for good.
“My basketball career has come to an end and I just want to post about how thankful I am for all the memories and support,” read a part of the 6-foot-5 bruiser’s post.
Tiongson first made a name for himself in the regional pro league with Chong Son Kung Fu in the 2017-2018 season, where he served as one of the Chinese ball club’s Heritage Imports.
There, he posted averages of 11.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the 21 games he played.
He transferred to San Miguel Alab the following season, where he was the team’s defensive anchor. He had per-game norms of 6.9 markers, 4.4 boards, and 2.3 dimes in 23 games.
His stint with Alab, though, was hounded by an ankle injury. He and Alab only went as far as the quarterfinals.
Tiongson is now the third player from Alab to retire this off-season after Josh Urbiztondo and Rico Maierhofer.
