Ginebra needed to survive another late-game scare by Rain or Shine before coming away with the narrow 103-98 decision to take the 2-1 lead in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup semis Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Kings already led by 11 with about three minutes remaining but the Elasto Painters leaned on hot shooting courtesy of Caelan Tiongson and import Jaylen Johnson to cut the gap to just three, 101-98, with 13.1 seconds to go.
But similar to the last game, their foes would lose steam, with Stephen Holt coming through with the free throws with 11.4 left for the final count, eventually completing the comeback that witnessed the crew go down by as many as 13 points.
Scottie Thompson starred in the win with 25 points, most of which he made in the third quarter to lead the turnaround after starting at an eight-point deficit at the half.
