Blacklist falls to lower bracket as BOOM exits HoK Championship

Blacklist International was sent down to the lower bracket, while BOOM Esports bowed out of the Honor of Kings Championship 2024 following gut-wrenching losses at the MGP Space in Jakarta, Indonesia last Sunday.

The Tier One-backed squad – who ranked second during the Philippine qualifiers held last month – suffered a deflating 3-0 loss against the Adrian “Toshi” Bacallo-led Dominator Esports of Indonesia in the upper bracket semifinals.

A few days ago, Blacklist International scored a monumental upset after taking down Malaysia’s Team Secret, 3-2, in the upper bracket quarterfinals.

The Filipino squad actually finished second in Group A with a 2-1 record behind pool leader Dominator Esports, who finished with a clean 3-0 record.

Blacklist International still has a shot at advancing further into the playoffs when they take on Nova Esports in the lower bracket quarterfinals on Friday.

Composing the squad are Chammy “Chammy1” Nazarrea, Justine “Juschie” Tan, Aaron “Aaron” Bingay, Golden “Goldenk1te” Dajao, Charles “Chazz” Esguerra, Mark “Maze” Galang, and coach Gerald “Tgee” Gelacio.

Meanwhile, BOOM Esports, who topped the local qualifiers, absorbed a 3-1 loss at the hands of Malaysia’s Nova Esports in the first round of the lower bracket.

BOOM Esports earlier represented the Philippines in the China-ASEAN Esports tournament last month.

They lost to Hong Kong’s Fearless Esports HK in the upper bracket quarterfinals which relegated them down the lower bracket.

The team had an impressive showing in Group B, taking down Brazil’s Influence Rage and Alpha7 Esports to secure the second place in the pool.

BOOM Esports, which consists of Miguel “Miggie” Banaag, Dragon Hard “Dragon” Dajao, Audrey “Ajizix” Cedro, John Lloyd “Impressive” Dela Cruz, Eleazar “Azar” Salle, Maynard “Arise” Limon and coach Christian “Ciiyan” Villegas, ended the tournament in 7th-8th place and will take home 40,000 USD.
