Sheena Toring threw herself a party on her birthday.
The 5-foot-10 middle blocker, celebrating her 23rd birthday, ensured National University’s return to the Finals by sweeping Far Eastern University, 25-13, 27-25, 25-15 on Wednesday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Toring’s party revolved around blocks, as she registered six denials along with five attacks and two service aces. She finished with 13 points, complementing Bella Belen’s 21.
“I’m happy naman kasi gusto ko talagang bumawi since nung last game, ang pangit ng performance namin,” said Toring.
“Yung last game, ginawa talagang motivation yun at hindi ako papayag na basta-basta lang kaming matatalo.”
In the previous match between NU and FEU, Toring only managed six points. She even found herself benched in the third set as they were swept by the Lady Tamaraws 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.
She was determined not to let the Lady Bulldogs’ season end abruptly, especially after failing to finish the Finals series last year herself.
During the fifth set of Game 1 between De La Salle University and NU last season, Toring injured her left knee.
She couldn’t play in Game 2, where the Lady Spikers clinched the crown after another five-set victory.
This time against the University of Santo Tomas, Toring emphasized the need for thorough preparation against the little Tigresses.
They split their games in the eliminations, with UST winning the first round in straight sets and NU winning the second round in four sets.
“For sure sa championship, magpi-prepare talaga kami nang maayos and sana mag-improve pa kami at prepared dapat kami sa championship.”
