Soorya Soorya dominated above the net as India rolled to its second consecutive victory by blanking Chinese Taipei, 25-19, 25-13, 25-16, in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The 6-foot middle blocker showcased her prowess, registering eight kill blocks along with seven attacks to finish with a game-high 15 points, leading the Indians to a 72-minute victory over Chinese Taipei.
“I’m very happy that we won, and we hope to get more wins. Our teammates are very supportive, and so are our coaches and the Indian audience. This time, we’re going to win this tournament,” said Soorya.
With the victory, India, who defeated Iran in straight sets yesterday, momentarily took the number one spot in Pool A with a perfect 2-0 record.
Ansuree Kambrath Poyilil, who scored 15 points in their debut win against the Iranians, proved to be a reliable weapon again for the Indians with 13 points on 13 attacks.
Radha Anagha scored seven points, while the trio of Shaalini Saravan, Shilpa Rajendrandair, and Jini Kovat Shaji each contributed six markers.
India will battle the home team, the Philippines, as they look to remain undefeated tomorrow, Friday, at 7:00 p.m. at the same venue.
On the other hand, Chinese Taipei dropped to 0-2 in the standings.
Hsu Fang-Min led the way with 10 points, while Lin Liang-Tai added eight markers. Huang Chun-Jia and Chang Chia-Chi scored six points apiece.
Chinese Taipei will take on Iran, hoping to secure their first win, also on Friday at 10:00 a.m.
