Aurora falls to Team Liquid ID, ends M6 campaign

By: Jan Marcus Montevirgen

Aurora’s campaign in the M6 World Championship ended on Wednesday after a 2-0 defeat to reigning MPL Indonesia champions, Team Liquid Indonesia (TLID), at the IOI Grand Exhibition & Convention Center in Malaysia.

This marked only the second time a Philippine team has failed to reach the playoffs in the tournament’s history. The first time was ONIC PH during the inaugural M1.

“I think that every region has stepped up and everyone can fight against each other now,” said head coach Aniel “Master the Basics” Jiandani during the post-match interview.

In Game 1, TLID’s dynamic duo of Yehezkiel “Yehezkiel” Wiseman (Xavier) and Sultan “AeronnShikii” Muhammad (Granger) dominated, relentlessly pressuring Aurora with their precise coordination.

Their flawless performance led to a combined KDA of 14 kills and 18 assists, sealing the opener convincingly.

Aurora came out strong in Game 2, establishing an early 2.3k gold lead within the first 6 minutes and 9 seconds, along with five kills.

However, the momentum shifted at the 10:07 mark during a crucial mid-lane skirmish. TLID secured a four-to-one trade and claimed the Lord, turning the game in their favor.

Aurora showed flashes of resilience as Jonard “Demonkite” Caranto (Joy) executed a clutch steal on the third Lord, providing a brief lifeline for the team. TLID regained control at the 17:42 mark, though, winning a three-to-three trade and reclaiming the Lord.

Despite valiant defensive efforts from Demonkite (Joy) and Renejay “Renejay” Barcarse (Tigreal), Aurora couldn’t hold off TLID’s decisive mid-lane push.

AeronnShikii (Bruno) was named match MVP, finishing with an impeccable KDA of nine kills and five assists.

The win improved TLID’s group stage record to 2-2, keeping their playoff hopes alive.  They now face a must-win situation in their final group-stage match.

A victory secures a knockout round berth, while a loss would result in elimination.
