As sale talks swirl, Terrence Romeo keeps Terrafirma focused: ‘Nasa moment kami’

Terrence Romeo and the rest of Terrafirma are choosing to cross the bridge when they get there amid talks that the Dyip are running on borrowed time.

The three-time PBA scoring champion is encouraging his teammates to stay focused on the task at hand — and that is to play, simply put, even as the franchise could soon be under new management should things fall into place.

“For me, kailangan lang namin mag-focus sa kung ano ‘yung moment namin right now. Nasa moment kami na we’re still Terrafirma,” he offered, “so, kailangan namin ibigay ‘yung best namin every game for Terrafirma.

“And then, tsaka namin iisipin kung ano ‘yung mangyayari ‘pag tapos na kami sa moment namin right now,” added the 33-year-old guard.

Romeo made his comments Friday after Terrafirma’s 95-87 win over Phoenix to open the Season 49 Philippine Cup, which could be its final run in the league.

For weeks now, the Dyip have been on the news after their top brass, led by team governor Bobby Rosales, entered discussions with Starhorse Shipping Lines to sell the franchise, and is reportedly a done deal already.

The only thing needed now is for Rosales, formerly the PBA vice chairman, to secure the approval of the Board of Governors for the transfer of ownership.

Asked for comment after the game, the team executive declined to grant interviews from the press regarding the matter and deferred to the league for official word before making his way out of the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Romeo himself admitted that the development came as a surprise to the squad, but at the same time understands that it’s all part of the business.

“Siyempre nagulat na ganun ‘yung mangyayari. Pero at the same time, ganun naman ‘yung life ng player,” he said.

“Sometimes, ‘yung mga ibang player nga, napupunta sa ibang team eh, so walang difference.

“Kumbaga, parang this time, kung ang magte-take over is iba, then nandoon lang kami para maglaro para sa Starhorse,” added the 12-year vet.

For now, Romeo & Co. opt to control what they can, with their sights set on racking up as many wins as they can in the season-ending tilt.

“Right now, nandito kami para sa Terrafirma,” said the three-time titlist.

“And kagaya nang sinabi ni Coach Raymond, gusto namin na magtuloy-tuloy ‘yung winning streak namin — kumbaga, magkaroon kami ng winning streak.”
