In celebration of its golden anniversary, the Philippine Basketball Association is offering lower ticket prices in select sections of the Rizal Memorial Coliseum for the Philippine Cup games on April 9.
The league announced that fans can avail themselves of lower box seats for only P50, and general admission tickets for just P30, in commemoration of its 50th year—exactly five decades since Asia’s first-ever professional basketball league tipped off on April 9, 1975.
The PBA debuted with a double-header that featured pioneer teams Mariwasa Noritake versus Concepcion Carrier in the opener, and Toyota against U/Tex in the main game.
On this year’s April 9 twinbill, Magnolia will take on Converge, followed by a rematch between defending champion Meralco and powerhouse San Miguel.
The clash between the Bolts and the Beermen marks the first time the two squads will meet in the Season 49 All-Filipino Conference since Meralco stunned San Miguel in six games last year to capture its first-ever PBA championship.
Adding a touch of nostalgia, both teams are expected to don their respective retro jerseys for the occasion.
San Miguel and Meralco previously crossed paths in the old Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association during the pre-PBA era. San Miguel eventually became one of the league’s founding teams, while Meralco joined the PBA in 2010.
However, the PBA’s official 50th season won’t commence until October this year.
